A sunny day in Stoke
Stoke-on-Trent is a great city to enjoy when the sun is shining. We have some brilliant outdoor attractions that are made that extra little bit more special when the weather is nice!
The Trentham Estate is the perfect place to spend a whole day soaking up the sun! The stunning gardens allow visitors to enjoy the outdoors to the maximum with its vast perennial plantings providing breath-taking vistas that change throughout the seasons. Take a wander through the award-winning gardens or soak up the rays with a picnic overlooking Trentham’s mile long, Capability Brown designed lake. Take the fairy trail and keep your eyes peeled as you walk around the lake, and through the woodland, maze and gardens where the fairies live. Let the kids run wild in the adventure playground where they can tackle the assault course, fly down the zip wire, get creative in the sand pits, climb the nets, test their driving skills or get lost in the hide and speak maze. There’s also a brilliant toddler zone, where younger visitors can take to the high seas as the boats sail on a sea of sand! Get naked from the knees down on the barefoot walk, take a trip across the lake on the Miss Elizabeth or take a miniature train ride as it travels along the lakeside too.
The southern end of the Trentham Estate is home to the amazing Trentham Monkey Forest where visitors can walk freely amongst 140 Barbary macaques. Be amazed as you watch the monkeys go about their daily business as you walk through ¾ mile path through their 60 acre forest.
If you love lemurs, have a passion for penguins or want to wander with the wallabies, you can come face to face with exotic and endangered animals from across three continents at Peak Wildlife Park.
Explore our greenways, canals, and nature reserves by taking a relaxing walk or gentle bike ride through our green spaces. Westport Lake and Park Hall Country Park are great for wildlife spotting.
If you’re looking for peace and tranquillity, enjoy the colour and the splendour by exploring Stoke-on-Trent’s unique, mesmerising gardens including the Italian Gardens and the Dorothy Clive Garden. Discover the world at Biddulph Grange Garden! The Victorian garden shows off trees and plants brought from far flung destinations around the globe by the daring plant hunters of the time. This unique garden, which consists of smaller hidden interlinking gardens including an Italian terrace, Chinese garden, Egyptian pyramid, dahlia walk, and a Scottish glen, was created by Darwin’s contemporary and correspondent James Bateman as an extension of his beliefs and scientific interests.
Each of our towns has a beautiful Victorian park – perfect for spending a sunny afternoon relaxing and letting the children enjoy playing in the sunshine!
