Stoke-on-Trent's ceramic attractions tell the story of how our wonderful city has been shaped by its production of pottery for centuries and grown into a city with a globally renowned reputation and history of innovation, science, art, culture, and entrepreneurialism.
The history and heritage of Stoke-on-Trent is well-preserved at numerous attractions including World of Wedgwood, is a unique visitor experience celebrating the very best of British industrial and design heritage; and the award-winning Gladstone Pottery Museum, a complete Victorian pottery factory, boasting interactive exhibitions and a "Flushed with Pride" tribute to toilets past, present and future! Middleport Pottery, the home of world-renowned Burleigh pottery, is a fantastic experience where visitors can go behind-the-scenes and learn about the people and events that have shaped the factory over the years. As the last working Victorian pottery in the UK, the site continues to produce Burleigh pottery using the same traditional handcraft techniques as in the 1880s.
Factory tours are available at the World of Wedgwood, Moorcroft, Middleport Pottery and Emma Bridgewater where you can learn about the skills and craftsmanship that go into producing our world-famous pottery.
Why not 'have a go' at creating your own masterpiece with the many hands-on opportunities available including painting your own pottery at Emma Bridgewater and Royal Stafford, throwing your own pot at Gladstone Pottery Museum, to designing your own dinner service at the World of Wedgwood.
The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in the city centre houses the finest collection of Staffordshire ceramics in the world. The museum also houses decorative arts, natural history displays, and a World War II Spitfire, designed by local hero Reginald Mitchell. You can also see items from the remarkable Staffordshire Hoard on display.
