Six Ways to Save in Stoke this Summer Holiday
Check out these 6 Top Tips to get great value days out in Stoke-on-Trent, and beyond. Get more inspiration from like-minded day-trippers by reading our Summer Holiday Blog or search #visitstoke and #mystokestory on social.
1. MAKE FRIENDS AND TAKE THE INITIATIVE
Right then duck, the thing is in Stoke-on-Trent there are LOADS OF INITIATIVES to entice you and the kids to get active, arty, healthy, learn and experience our culture – and of course to have fun, as you do it. Make friends with our friends and take their initiatives! You’re welcome to follow them on social and be the first to hear about their FREE events and GREAT VALUE deals. There are some useful links at the end of the article 😉
2. MAKE IT MORE EXPANSIVE AND LESS EXPENSIVE
Mix and match your paid for and FREE experiences to lower the cost of a whole day out. For example, if you’re heading to Emma Bridgewater for a decorating experience, extend the day by walking up the canal to the Marina at Festival Park, or down to Hanley Park. At Trentham Gardens, Monkey Forest or Trentham Treetops – try the free Woodland Walks too.
3. WALK, CYCLE OR TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Save on fuel and parking fees by exploring what’s close to home by foot, take to the cycle routes, or bus it to your destination. Or even make the journey your activity by following a trail, or cycling the towpaths and country parks. Check them out in our Summer Holiday Blog.
4. DO A SUPERMARKET SWEEP
As the saying goes – every little helps! That couldn’t be truer than with Tesco Clubcard Days Out. Locally, you can use them for Trentham Gardens, Cineworld, TenPin and Alton Towers.
Check product packs for ticket offers too, like the really Grrrreat Kelloggs one for Alton Towers, featured here by Money Saving Expert. Always check the validity dates and terms and conditions of acceptance direct with the attraction.
5. PACK A PICNIC
Having something to eat and drink is all part of a great day out, but it’s a treat that can tip the budget over the top. Take a picnic and use drinks cooler bottles and flasks to take a drink or two along. Many local parks and visitor attractions welcome picnickers and have created lovely picnic areas and benches for you to use.
6. VALUE TICKETS
When you’re paying admission, look out for 2for1, 3for2 and family tickets. Do your research before you go or ask the staff at the entrance. Often, it can be cheaper to take out a membership if you’re going to be returning time and again. English Heritage and RHS membership can be purchased using the Tesco scheme! The National Trust operate Biddulph Grange, Shugborough, Little Moreton Hall, Barlaston Downs and Hawksmoor nearby.

Dialect disclaimer for non-natives
* Us Stokies often say “up” or “down” rather than “to”. So, for example, we go Up Hanley, and Down Longton.
** Duck, is a term of endearment in The Potteries, as well as an instruction to quickly crouch down, or a type of waterfowl that quacks.
